Plan access before cleaning

High-level facade cleaning should not start without a safe access method. Review gondola systems, rope access, scaffold, boom lift, anchor points, exclusion zones, and rescue planning before work begins.

Use compatible cleaning materials

Some glass coatings, aluminium finishes, gaskets, stone surfaces, and sealants can be damaged by harsh chemicals or abrasive tools. Test cleaning methods in a small area and follow the facade system supplier's maintenance guidance where available.

Weather and site safety

  • Avoid high winds, lightning risk, heavy rain, and unsafe visibility conditions.
  • Use proper PPE, tool lanyards, signage, barricades, and trained supervision.
  • Protect pedestrians, vehicles, landscaping, and lower roofs from water and falling objects.

Inspect while cleaning

Cleaning is a good time to note scratches, cracks, failed sealant, loose gaskets, corrosion, staining, water marks, broken hardware, and panel movement. Keep dated photos and repair notes for future maintenance.

Safety reminder: Facade cleaning at height should be handled by trained professionals with site-specific risk assessment and compliant access equipment.
